  • Google Breaks $500 a Share - What can you say about Google, it just keeps pushing forward and increasing in value. The companys share price has risen above US$500 and you have to wonder how much higher it can go.

  • Enron's Jeffrey Skilling get 24 Years - Former Enron Chief Executive Jeffrey Skilling has been sentenced to twenty four years and four months. Federal Judge Sim Lake ordered the disgraced Enron executive to forfeit $45 million in ill gotten assets from his time at the giant energy trading company.
  • Australian Media Ownership Laws Change - Not long after new media ownership laws were passed through the Australian Government, big deals were made with Rupert Murdoch taking a 7.5% share in it's media giant rival John Fairfax Holdings.
  • Google Trumps Yahoo Again - Google has payed $1.65 billion for YouTube.com the largest user contributed video website on the net. This increases Google's dominance over Yahoo even further in the race to take over the world.
  • Women at the Top - 48 women are at the top of big business up from 35 last year and as the increase continues, it seems women can cause just as much scandal as the men can.
  • Windows Live Search - There's now a new competitor for Google to contend with and it's called Windows Live Search and is Microsoft's attempt to crack into the internet search business.
  • Google and eBay Partnership - Google has partnered with eBay to supply text based advertising on eBay's international websites while Yahoo supplies adverts for the US website.
  • Microsoft Buying Companies - The giant software company, Microsoft purchased 23 companies in the past year, up from just 9 the year before. The big difference is that those 23 companies are much smaller than previous years.
  • Dell Exploding Laptops - While Michael Dell is spending some time in Sydney, Australia, the media are discussing the recall and how it could impact future sales. Pictures of Dell laptops exploding into flames have been splashed across every television channel and newspaper around the world.
  • AOL Job Cuts - With the recent decision to open up the content of AOL to the general public, there has also come some job cutting. Not just a few jobs here and there either, it's serious job cutting!
  • The Future of Hybrid Cars - One of the worlds largest car makers and leader in the hybrid car market Toyota Motor Corp has released plans to make hybrid vehicles that can have it's batteries recharge by a standard power outlet found in the home.
  • Windows Vista Update - Microsoft's latest windows operating system called Vista is due out soon and with another beta having been released for testing, hopefully many problems will have been ironed out.
  • Kerkorian and GM - Major investor in GM and billionaire businessman Kirk Kerkorian hopes to bring French car maker Renault and Japanese car maker Nissan on board. The General Motors board will look into a deal where Renault and Nissan would buy about 20% of GM, and share production facilities.
  • Bill Gates Stepping Down from Microsoft - The richest man in the world announced this week that he will giving up his daily responsibilities at Microsoft in two years time. After thirty years at the giant software company Bill Gates will be stepping down to work full time at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
  • Enron Fallout - The mighty Enron company rose from 11 cents to 15 cents after the recent guilty verdict of the infamous former leaders, Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling. Gone are the days of the $90 per Enron share! The now penny stock used to be a darling of the stock market.
  • NYSE and Euronext Merger Bid - Plans have been made for a $21 billion New York Stock Exchange and Euronext merger beating a German company called Deutsche Boerse who also wanted a merger with Euronext.
  • Avoiding Hidden Bank fees - In the last 10 years bank fees have more than doubled and in the last 4 or 5 years they have sky rocketed again to all time highs pushing bank profits through the roof.
  • Microsoft vs Google vs Yahoo - Microsoft must be a bit worried about it's future when it come to it's internet business as they have tried to buyout Yahoo's search engine in a bid to catch up to the ever growing Google.
  • Berkshire Hathaway Profits Rise 70 Percent - Warren Buffett will surely please his flock of loyal followers this weekend as he speaks to them at Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting. The first quarter profits of the company have rose by 70 percent.
  • Microsoft's Office Live - The Office Live site by Microsoft that is still in beta recently surged in traffic by more than 50%. Not to be confused with their Microsoft Office software, Office Live is an online resource for businesses to establish a presence on the internet.
  • Nasdaq Invests in London Stock Exchange - The American based, technology heavy NASDAQ stock exchange has invested heavily in the London Stock Exchange by purchasing 15% of it. The LSE has been eyed up by a few substantial investors in recent years. Nasdaq has paid $781.5 million for it's share of LSE.
  • More Virgin Group Acquisitions - A news story over on Reuters reports that Richard Branson's Virgin Group which includes a health club called Virgin Active, is looking to expand the Virgin Active name throughout the USA.
  • Don't Get Rich Quick on eBay - eBay is a hugely popular marketplace for selling your wares, and it didn't take long for eBay businesses to startup.
  • Freddie Mac 2005 Results - Now that the accounting scandals have settled at the giant American mortgage company, Freddie Mac has announced that 2005 has been a good year for them.
  • Google Finance - A new finance portal has just been released by the search engine company, Google. Google Finance is still in beta, but will offer similar services and information as Yahoo Finance.
  • Sell It On eBay - eBay has become more that just a place to sell off all the junk you don't need anymore, for some it has turned out to be a business oppotunity making them real money.
  • Designs by Google - Looking to create your own webpage but wouldn't know where to start, well Google may have the answer for you? Google is releasing it's newest tool called Page Creator to allow people to easily make their own websites with a minimum of knowledge using premade template's and design's.
  • Google Stocks Drop - It seemed that Google could not make a wrong move with Wall Street, with its stock price moving higher week after week. Investors that got in on the ground floor were happy to see GOOG reach a high of $475 per share in just a couple short years, but more recently the stock has taken a pounding.
  • Amazon.com Shares Plunge - Investors have been voting with their feet and jumping out of the online retailing giant Amazon.com recently. Even though fourth quarter sales rose 17%, they were still below analysts' estimates.
